What I am looking for
I am looking for a new job. Not urgently, and not for any company: I would rather wait for the right shape of problem than take the first offer.
What matters
- A challenging industry Something with a hard problem underneath it. I am not looking to put a thinner layer on a question somebody already answered.
- People who are not afraid to be augmented with AI A team already working this way, rather than one still deciding whether to allow it. I run Labo Jaune on that basis and I would rather not argue the case again from zero.
- Remote first Not remote tolerated. I am in Cotonou, and I work best somewhere that was built for people who are not in the room.
- AI tooling in the work itself I like building with these tools and I like building them. Either side of that is interesting to me.
Sectors I am drawn to
- Ecommerce Six years at Beans. This is where my instincts are sharpest.
- Education Six years teaching at Africa Design School, and the part of the work I miss.
- AI safety The consequences are worth the care, and the design problems are unusual.
- Art Tools for people making things.
That list is not a fence. Anything with a real problem in it is worth a conversation.
How I work
- Write it before you draw it A problem you can state plainly is usually half-solved. Most of my design work now starts as prose, not as a canvas.
- Build the team, not just the product At Koin Koin Vélo the software was never the bottleneck. Training the people who run it every day was.
- AI-native by default At Labo Jaune this is how we work, not a feature we bolt on at the end.
- Rough and real beats polished and hypothetical A finished-looking mockup hides its assumptions. I would rather build the crude version and find out.
Practicalities
- Based in Cotonou, Bénin (GMT+1)
- Works in French & English
- Setup Remote first, from Cotonou, happy to travel for the parts that need a room
If that sounds like your company, tell me about the role or book a call.
